Chocolate addicts are getting another serving of good health news.
A new study suggests a daily does of dark chocolate over serveral years could lower the risk of heart attack and stroke in highrisk people.
Chocolate that's at least 70% cocoa is rich in flavonoids - anti-oxidant pigments known to lower blood pressure and cholesterol.
Researchers at Monash University in Melbourne analyzed data on omore than 2,000 people with untreated high blood pressure and predicted that controlled consumption of dark chocolate could prevent 70 nonfatal and 15 fatal heart attacks or strokes per 10,000 people over a decade.
"We've predicted significant health benefits of eating 100 grams of dark chocolate every day over a 10-year period. That's about the equivalent of one premium-quality block," researcher Ella Zomers, whose study was published in the British Medical Journal, Said.
